Happy New Year!!!
2019 was an “interesting” year for me. A lot of good times, down times and the in-betweens.
Shuffling work (there are no stipulated hours in entrepreneurship), church (a lot of responsibilities and expectations) and home (I’m not married but stuff still has to be done) was not easy and by the last quarter of 2019, I was just tired and honestly, borderline depressed.
I remember how demotivated I was when we were working on putting our Christmas package together for the Bake Shop and most times, I wished I could sleep and wake up on January 1st 2020.
I met a friend around that time who reminded me to remind myself why I do the things I do. He said the problem most businesses have is “when they stop seeing”.
Even though he was relating it to business, I related it to my life. I began to ask myself questions like:
1. Why did I start this business?
2. Where did I see this business headed when I initially saw the business?
3. Why do I serve in my local church?
4. Am I trying to please anybody with my service in church?
5. Am I still in touch with this God I claim to serve?
I didn’t have a ready answer to some of the questions I asked myself and that’s because somewhere in the midst of 2019, I stopped seeing.
I have one major goal for 2020 and it is to “NEVER STOP SEEING.”
It’s important to have dreams and all but more important is to write down actual goals and keep revisiting them.
Habakkuk 2:2 (ESV) says “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.”
If you stop seeing your vision (goals), you’ll stop dead in your tracks.
Cheers to 2020. I hope you never stop seeing.
